Sherlock Network documentation

Discover devices, understand your networks, and track what changes. Sherlock Network is completely free, with no credit card or paid AI or RMM subscription required.

Start here

  1. Sign in to your Sherlock dashboard and choose your organization.
  2. An organization admin can enable Network directly from Products. Other members request access for an administrator to review.
  3. Open Sherlock Network, add a scanner, and install the local scanner on a computer inside your network.
  4. Choose private IPv4 ranges and a schedule, enable discovery, and leave the scanner running.

What runs where?

Your team uses the web workspace to configure discovery and review results. A local scanner runs inside each network you want to discover and reports results over HTTPS. The scanner runs on Windows, Linux, or macOS. Creating a scanner in the workspace does not install or start the program.

Team roles

  • Viewer: inspect inventory, maps, scan history, alerts, and reports.
  • Technician: review devices, maintain inventory metadata, acknowledge alerts, and request scans.
  • Network administrator: configure scanners, tokens, network definitions, alert preferences, and SNMPv3 monitoring.

Organization admins assign product roles under Users & permissions. Product access and data remain scoped to the selected organization.

Discovery limits

Each scanner supports up to eight private IPv4 ranges and 1,024 configured addresses. Devices must be reachable from that scanner. Blocked probes, routed networks, and missing neighbor information affect what can be observed. Network discovery does not establish that a device is secure or free of vulnerabilities.

Related products

Network discovers devices without installing an agent on each device. RMM manages enrolled computers. Matching devices can be linked within your organization, with RMM access required to open or change those links. See the dashboard guide for shared accounts and organization access.
